You are “Among Friends” each week this Summer

IMG_2752

We have been working overtime getting one of our Summer Blocks of the Weeks going for you. We are debuting this one early because YOU get to choose the background color that YOU would like to work with. You are going to need 7 yards of background fabric so; we need to know what your choice is going to be so that we can get it in in time for when we start to ship the SBOW.

PLEASE read carefully. All of your questions should be answered by the time you are done reading this. We hope…..if we have forgotten anything, please let us know.

Welcome to Among Friends SBOW, when finished this quilt will measure approximately 72 ½” x 90 ½”. Each week you will be making 44-3” finished blocks; 36 for inside the quilt and 8 for the border, for a grand total of 528 blocks! You will be receiving each week 44-light fabrics and 44-Dark/Medium fabrics, which means that in theory you could have 1,056 different fabrics. We are going to try and make sure that they are all different, but we might not have enough lights to make that happen. We thank you for understanding ahead of time if you should happen to get a duplicate.

When ordering your SBOW, there will be many things to take into consideration. You will be choosing if you are going to pay in full at the beginning of the program or if you are going to be paying weekly. If you pay in full, you will be getting a break in the pricing and it will be like getting one week (blocks + shipping) FREE!!!! This is our THANK YOU for not having to run your credit card every week, PLUS if you pay in full you will be guaranteed to get that FREEBIE block each week as well. If you do not know about the FREEBIE block, each week you will receive a small block that will finish into another small quilt for FREE! But your credit card has to be charged each week in order to receive the block. If you are going to be paying in full, you will be charged $277.00 if you are Out of State, OR $290.85 if you are In State, at the beginning of the program, this includes the shipping.

If you are going to be paying weekly, each week for 12 weeks you will be charged $14.00 (+ tax if applicable) for the set of blocks and $4.00 (+ tax if applicable) for shipping each week. Please note that the first week shipping will be $13, as you will have 7 yards of fabric to be shipped to you. Week 12 might be more as well for shipping if you are choosing to receive the Backing Fabric. If you are going to be paying weekly, your TOTAL cost will be $295.00 if you are Out of State OR $309.75 if you are In State, once again that includes your shipping cost.

Alright, once you have decided if you are paying in full or paying weekly, you will need to choose what color you would like to have your background fabric be. Lisa is doing hers in the Dark Navy color. We are also offering it in the Medium Blue, Dark Red/Burgundy Color, Black and Walnut. We think all of these colors will look spectacular with the quilt, it is just a matter of what you have in your house and what you are looking for.

Ok, so you have chosen the color that you would like to work with. Now on to the supplies that we are going to be recommending to help you create and finish your project. We have put together a Supply Kit that contains: a Project Case so that you can store your blocks in as they are being made, Triangle Paper that has been created especially for this project, the Itty Bitty Ruler to help in your cutting and squaring up, and finally Aurifil Thread which we recommend for sewing the blocks together, 1140 or 2370 will be in the kits. If you purchase the whole kit, you will receive 25% off, which will make the Supply kit $45.50 (its like getting the ruler for FREE). If you would like to purchase the supplies separately you will be able to do so as well, but without a discount.

IMG_2757

You will also be able to order your backing fabric right away if you would like to. That will not be charged or shipped until Week 12. We do not sequester fabrics away for backing, trust us there is no bad fabric in the Shop. If you would like to request the Backing Fabric, please place the Color you would like for us to pick for you in the COMMENT SECTION of your order and we will pick out something spectacular for you! You will need 6 yards of fabric for the backing, which we will apply a 25% discount to, and your Backing Fabric will be $54.

Here is a computer generated image of what the quilt will look like when you are finished with your project.

We think this project is amazing and cant wait for you to join in on the FUN. We would like everyone to be able to do this project in the Background Color of their choosing, so please make sure you sign up for this project ASAP, so that we can ensure that we have enough fabric for everyone!

We are going to also have a Hand-Pieced and a Wool Appliqué Summer Block of the Week as usual, and that will be released as soon. Due to the special needs (7 yards of Background Fabric) of this SBOW, we are releasing this early.

Have a wonderful evening,

Jessica

Have you heard about Tuxedo’s Tales?

Have you seen the cute little patterns from Bonnie Sullivan of All Thru the Night called Tuxedo’s Tales? It is basically the adventures of Tuxedo the Cat all thru the months of the year. This is a 12 month commitment and will be only $11.50/month for the Kit and Pattern!!!! By doing the block of the month it will be like receiving one full month FREE!!! They will retail individually in a couple months for $12.50 for kit and pattern.

Each month starting in April 2016 you will receive one kit and pattern to work on. You will receive the kit for the month a head of the one that we would currently be in, so that “in theory” you will have it done to put up for the month that you would be rolling into. Another words: In April you will receive the May kit to work on.

If you would like to use the buttons for the eyes, berries and all other options that she uses on her patterns, you can select to receive the button pack. The button pack will be $12.50 and will have ALL of the buttons in it to do the whole 12 month program. So make sure you put those in a safe spot when you get them with your first month!

There are a couple different options that you could do with this project. You could make them into individual pieces that you hang on the wall in a frame, you could turn them into one big quilt, or a couple small ones, or you could individually give them away to friends and family.

FullSizeRender
Al is making these awesome frames to go along with the Block of the Month. You can choose the Cranberry Red Color or the Spring Green Color or Both if you would like too. The Spring Green color is slightly darker than the eyes of Tuxedo the Cat. The frames will be $30 a piece plus shipping.

Start signing up Today! Make it a great day!! Jessica

And the #5’s have moved in…..

Our Collection of Valdani Threads are growing yet again with the addition a few of the #5 weights!    Lisa has decided to begin to use a couple of these in some of her up and coming projects.  They are great for stitching words on to projects, embellishing leaves and also using them to make a thicker stem stitch.  I wish I had had some of these when I was doing  a Block of the Month called My Enchanted Garden!  I had soooooo many stems to stem stitch!!!

You can see in the photo below the difference in the thickness between the #12, #8, and the #5.

To start you off with your Collection of #5’s, we have built 2 Different Collection Boxes for you to choose from for $30/box. We are just waiting on one more color to come in so that we can offer you a 3rd collection.  Or you can always purchase them individually if you would like to as well. Just know that in a Collection Box you are always saving a little bit.

O say can you see, by the dawns early light….

SSL w Flag Row EQ.jpg
Star Spangled Liberty   74 1/2″ x 78″   Pieced Version

There has been a lot of buzz this week around this new Block of the Month Program called Star Spangled Liberty.  Pam Buda of Heartspun Quilts has designed the pattern and the fabric line that will be used in BOM.  We just saw the line with our Marcus Brothers Fabric Rep this past week and the fabrics are beautiful, muted blues, reds and creams.

Each month for 9 months starting in September 2016 you will be doing a row of blocks.  I know what you are thinking; there are only 8 rows, well actually the “flag” side of the quilt is considered 2 months worth.  By the time the Block of the Month is completed you will have received a total of 18 1/4 yards to create it!!! Each month will be $29 and will include your fabric and your pattern.  In theory you will have your quilt finished in time for the 4th of July 2017!  That sounds so far out, but it really isn’t is it?  I still can’t believe we are in 2016 already!  We also have the option of purchasing your backing for the quilt from us as well, with a 20% discount on your backing fabric.  Just choose red or blue backing fabric and we will pick out a great backing for you from the Fabric Line.

You will have the option of creating the All Pieced Quilt which you saw above OR you can do the Appliqué version that is shown below.  For cutting purposes of your fabrics we will need to know which version you would like to do.  Please pick the one you would like to do when choosing this Block of the Month.

SSL w Applique Row BONG.jpg

We are advertising the Star Spangled Liberty BOM early because we know that this quilt is going to go over spectacularly and want to be able to order more kits if need be so that EVERYONE is able to participate if they would like to.   I have it on good authority that there will be an additional 1 or two projects in this pattern at the end of the program.  For those of you that did the Prairie Gatherings Quilt BOM you know Pam always provides you with awesome “freebie” patterns!

Star Spangled Banner Lyrics By: Francis Scott Key 1814

Oh, say can you see by the dawn’s early light
What so proudly we hailed at the twilight’s last gleaming?
Whose broad stripes and bright stars thru the perilous fight,
O’er the ramparts we watched were so gallantly streaming?
And the rocket’s red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there.
Oh, say does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave?

On the shore, dimly seen through the mists of the deep,
Where the foe’s haughty host in dread silence reposes,
What is that which the breeze, o’er the towering steep,
As it fitfully blows, half conceals, half discloses?
Now it catches the gleam of the morning’s first beam,
In full glory reflected now shines in the stream:
‘Tis the star-spangled banner! Oh long may it wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

And where is that band who so vauntingly swore
That the havoc of war and the battle’s confusion,
A home and a country should leave us no more!
Their blood has washed out their foul footsteps’ pollution.
No refuge could save the hireling and slave
From the terror of flight, or the gloom of the grave:
And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

Oh! thus be it ever, when freemen shall stand
Between their loved home and the war’s desolation!
Blest with victory and peace, may the heav’n rescued land
Praise the Power that hath made and preserved us a nation.
Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just,
And this be our motto: “In God is our trust.”
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

Hope you all have an amazing weekend!  I am going to be painting all weekend!

BLAST FROM THE PAST!

101622609_600

Do you remember this great little mat called La Petite Fleur?  It was originally from the American Patchwork and Quilting Magazine back in April of 2011.  Well…..the Editors at American Patchwork and Quilting have picked it as one of there favorites and are featuring it in a magazine put out by Better Homes and Gardens Special Interest Publications has called Make It Mini. We will be putting together kits for this sweet summer inspiring mat that only measures 8 1/4″! I love the way that they displayed the mat with the small vases of flowers.  Unfortunately we do not have any of the magazines available but I am sure you will be able to find it at your local Quilt Shop or at your local Book Stores. Make sure you purchase your kit today as we will only be doing this kit for a limited time.

AQS Daytona Show Quilts

When we were in Daytona Beach for the AQS Quilt Show, they had some wonderful quilts on display for all of us to look at.  While there were not very many “traditional” quilts like we do here at Primitive Gatherings, each and everyone of these quilts were just as beautiful.  Many were more of the “art” quilts and were decorated with the glittery thread and rhinestones, which are not my cup of tea, but I could definitely appreciate all of the hard work and time that was put into each of these quilts.  Make sure you take a peak at so of the quilts that inspired me, as they are beautiful.

I have included the name of the individual who created the quilt, the name that they were calling the quilt and a picture or two from each of the quilts. These are just a few quilts that caught my eye.

This was the quilt that Won for Best Use of Color.

I loved the way this quilt was put together, with the small log cabin blocks and the appliqué over the top of it. The use of the Blues, Browns, Tans and Creams were amazing.

So Tiny!!!  Loved the way this was pieced.  I am partial to the Blue and Cream/White color quilts.

This to me is just absolutely stunning.  It is so brilliantly done that I have no words!  It is an old fashion Winter scene and can see hit happening out in the Countryside anywhere!

Beautiful Applique Quilt.  I am not proficient at doing needle turn appliqué and it just amazing me sometimes the simplicity of the blocks and how big of an impact they can make.

Love the Colors!

Ok, so these little itty bitty pieces……..just WOW!  Those small little blocks surrounding the center of the quilt are about 2 inches finished.  It was just spectacular!

Last but not least, this quilt just appealed to me.  I love the use of the colors and the way that your eyes travel around the quilt.

Hope you enjoyed this mini-quilt show! I got sooooooo much inspiration from these quilts, made me wanna run home and start putting together a few of my quilts that i have just sitting around waiting to be finished.  Sometimes you just need a little inspiration to get you going again.

Happy Quilting, Jessica
